About Me

Justin Antonio Hargrove is an alumnus of Virginia State University, where he earned both his Bachelor's degree in Psychology (2011) and Master's degree in Counseling (2015). Since 2015, he has been a licensed School Counselor and a Qualified Mental Health Professional-Child (QMHP-C) since 2011. Additionally, he is a Resident in Counseling in Virginia. Justin's expertise lies in working with a diverse range of clients including children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. He is particularly skilled in Career Counseling, Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, and Addiction. His therapeutic approach is multifaceted, integrating Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy. This blend of techniques empowers his clients to forge solutions and achieve substantial improvements in their overall functioning and quality of life. From a young age, Justin has been deeply fascinated by the workings of the human mind and people's thought processes. He is strongly solution-focused and has a profound passion for mental health. A significant part of his mission is to challenge and change the negative perceptions surrounding mental health, especially among young minority males.


Assisting a client deal with the loss of his younger brother and coming to terms that his father committed the murder.

During the first 4-6 weeks of our engagement, we will focus on building rapport. During this period, we will work together to identify your goals and objectives for the treatment plan, and also identify any triggers, motivators, and core values and beliefs that will be helpful for you throughout our time together. We will also discuss the assessment that will be used, treatment modalities, homework assignments, and the process for updating treatment plans every 3 months.

Typically during the first session we will review evaluation recommendations, discuss the schedule, and complete a rapport builder questionnaire.

My childhood, my mom struggled with mental health challenges and I always wanted to learn how to support her.


    What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

    A therapeutic environment that is compassionate, empathetic, and safe that will include interventions, willingness to assist clients with the referral process and overall and welcoming environment to communicate their needs and challenges.

    What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

    I utilize evidence-based therapies, including: Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing & Solution-Focused Therapy.

    I excel in building a strong relationship with my clients, as it is a crucial component of a positive therapeutic experience. I have been able to establish a solid rapport with 9 out of 10 clients I have worked with in the past. Throughout my experience as a Community-Based Counselor and School Counselor, I have primarily utilized solution-focused, Motivational interviewing, and Cognitive behavior therapy." and Cognitive behavior therapy the most during my experience as a Community-Based Counselor and School Counselor.
