About Me

Hi there! My name is Rosa Colon. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC). I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Richmond and continued my graduate education at The College of New Jersey where I obtained my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have several years of experience working with a diverse population of clients struggling with both mental health and substance use related issues. If you are reading this, I can imagine you may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or in need of some guidance. I'm happy that you are choosing to show up for yourself and initiating your healing journey. It is my aim to assist my clients in developing a unique set of coping skills, healthy boundaries, and self care rituals in order to promote an overall sense of well being. I am eager for the opportunity to help facilitate positive change and witness you achieve your personal goals. My patience, compassion, and sense of humor allow me to create a safe, trusting therapeutic space for my clients. I understand that this process may seem scary, but think about how grateful your future self will be that you're giving yourself this gift!

FAQs

I have worked with an adult female with a significant history of physical, emotional and sexual trauma. She has struggled with over decades of anger, guilt, shame, and low self esteem that contributed to her engagement in self destructing behaviors, primarily substance abuse. Over the course of several months of therapy, she has been able to acknowledge the importance of addressing her mental health, develop a greater sense of self worth, reestablish a sense of control in her life, and maintain her sobriety.

Clients can expect to be treated with respect, patience, and compassion while we work to develop a strong, therapeutic counseling relationship. Throughout our process together, it is important for me to learn your life story including your cultural background, familial relationships, greatest challenges, and biggest successes. This information allows us to identify patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may or may not not be serving a healthy purpose. Together, we can work to develop a kinder inner voice which in turn will help you to experience more positive emotions and behavioral change.

The first session will include a discussion on the expectations of therapy including confidentiality, the counseling process, and goals of treatment. I want to know what brings you into therapy and how I can best support you in achieving your personal goals. Let's see how we can make the best team!

Life is not easy. However, I have been fortunate enough to have people around me who have made a world of a difference in helping me overcome my own personal struggles. I want to be that for you. I strive to break the stigma against seeking therapy and addressing mental health needs. I am passionate about providing individuals a safe, non judgemental space where they can process their darkest moments and learn to turn these same experiences into their greatest strengths.
