About Me

Hello, my name is Janet Boateng. I have been working with client’s and in this field of work for 7 years. I have worked with women, men, young adults, families, couples and adolescents. My preference though, is working with adults, couples and families as well. I attended Liberty University for my undergrad and graduate years. I have my Bachelors in Psychology Counseling and Human Development and my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counselor Ed and Fam Stud. I’ve worked with quite a few mental health agencies in the community, and over the years I’ve grown in understanding of working with adults from different backgrounds, as well as families and adolescents. In general, I love helping people, always have. And I love being able to come alongside people to help them in their walk, to maybe heal, understand things better, some empowerment and growth to their individual walks. What I love most, is seeing people thrive, blossom, overcome and conquering their goals.

FAQs

I would say a breakthrough that I helped a client achieve that was particularly significant to me, is when I was able to come alongside a client that had experienced some abandonment from being fostered by her foster parents. The client had already experienced abandonment from her original parents, then went through the same thing with her foster parents. Being able to come alongside this client to help her in her healing, her processing of her emotions, and her being able to grow out of this experience was priceless. The client had particular not worked for years, and after was able to successfully land a job and move forward.

Generally, an inviting atmosphere, space. The counseling process will look different for everyone, as everyone is different. But clients can expect to have a counseling process where they can truly process whatever they are looking to process in session.

First session typically looks like getting to know you the client, what is bringing you to therapy, counseling. We typically go through the back story and the details of what happened, and what is bringing you in. We also do go over what you want to accomplish coming in.

That’s a hard question. I would say everything. It brings me so much joy to see others thrive and grow like I mentioned. I love seeing people work through things to just grow, and overcome. And I love being able to just come alongside and see their beautiful journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect to take away being understood and listened to from sessions. Clients can expect to be able to truly open up and express themselves fully. Clients can expect to take away that they are very important and what they have to say, their story, and their feelings are just as important.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy & Motivational Interviewing.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

The areas that are my biggest strengths I would say is that I genuinely love connecting with clients in the therapeutic work. I strive to provide clients with a space that they can woosah in and be completely themselves. I love seeing client’s work through whatever they want to work through and I love being able to help them the little I can. I say little because I believe clients know themselves best, they just don’t know they do. I listen, understand and help you in your walk.
