I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 12 years of experience providing psychotherapy to adults, couples, and families. I enjoy helping people overcome psychological challenges so that they can enjoy meaningful and productive lives. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including private practice, community mental health, and substance abuse treatment.
I like helping people unravel the mental knots and contortions that they have gotten tangled in. Breakthroughs in treatment come in many forms, even failures and setbacks. It’s important for me to help people identify and cast-off outgrown or limiting self-perceptions so that they can make positive sustainable changes in their lives.
We will work together to develop an approach and plan for treatment that is focused on your goals, hopes and dreams. I believe that sustainable change requires developing insight into underlying issues of identity, attachment patterns and experiences in family of origin.
The first session requires patience and balance. It is important for me to gather specific background information about you but also provide an opportunity for you to share the salient details of your current concerns and wishes. While it is critical to begin developing trust in the first session, please know that psychotherapy is process that takes time and patience.
I became a therapist because I am interested in people’s stories and the ways in which the stories people tell themselves about their lives influence their mood and behavior. The stories we tell ourselves affect how we live in the world and how we interact with others. This fascinates me.
Highlights
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I believe psychotherapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and client. As the therapist, it is my responsibility to provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment in which mutual trust and respect can develop. I will work with you to create a plan for solution-focused therapy to improve overall well-being, increase motivation and develop the insight and skills you need to make positive and meaningful change.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I believe the best treatment approach is one determined by the client’s goals, strengths and symptoms. I have a range of experience and training in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, chronic illness and grief. In addition, I have specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and anxiety, in-depth psychodynamic psychotherapy, and EMDR for trauma.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
The most gratifying part of my work is developing trust with a person who is seeking help. I understand that developing a connection and feeling safe with a therapist are essential first steps. The next step is helping the client develop trust in the therapeutic process. There will be breakthroughs and accomplishments as well as setbacks and disappointments during therapy but all of these experiences are a necessary part of the process.
