FAQs

I had an individual come in for therapy who was completing broken, emotionally, spiritually and physically. I was able to explore and probe who she was before the trauma, and encouraging her to lift the burdens off her shoulder and work towards healing to get back to her former self, who was and is (because you cant take away someone's life accomplishments) a wonderful, valuable and loved person. We used mindfulness, holistic approaches towards healing, CBT and other modalities to help this individual re-introduce herself to a better, more loving and valued life.

My clients can expect for us to value building a rapport through active listening, empathy and an unconditional positive regard and warm acceptance. Exploring the identified needs, putting in the work, self-reflection and identifying an endpoint. This can be ever changing as the individual's treatment and progress will always be monitored.

The first session with me will include informing the individual that therapy is a safe place and discuss confidentiality. I will discuss expectations of therapy, I will then gather information for decision making purposes for a provisional diagnosis and establish some immediate treatment plan goals, objectives and interventions.

My origin story led me to therapy, as it kind of "fell on my lap". I am an individual with trauma. I was raised by a single mother who has mental illness. We were poor and she struggled with alcoholism (35 years sober). I started to develop anxiety and looking for acceptance in all the wrong places. My journey started as a personal one, however, I did not let my struggles be in vain, in which I decided to go into this field.

Highlights

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Shannon believes that everyone’s journey with therapy can look different, and it may take varying amounts of time to start making progress and positive changes in your life. While therapy can be a lengthy procedure, the process is not all stress and hardship. It is helpful to understand the phases of therapy you may progress through as you delve deeper into self-knowledge and self-healing. With Shannon’s guidance you will initiate your personal journey towards healing. Shannon feels that it is important to trust the process while maintaining open and honest communication with her regarding your feelings about your treatment plan. The two of you may find a way to collaborate on creating a positive therapy journey together. When you begin therapy with Shannon, it will often focus on building a stronger relationship. You may not feel comfortable starting the healing process right away, as your therapist is a stranger to you, and you might need some time before you are okay with being fully open and vulnerable with them. You may start by talking about your thoughts, feelings, and relationships in your life while Shannon listens and validates your experiences. This validation can help to create a sense of safety between the two of you, which then may lead you to have deeper, more closely held emotions that could lead to greater therapeutic insight.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Psychotherapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy & Play Therapy techniques.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Shannon is strong in trauma informed care which speaks to individuals who have experienced trauma in their lives where they cannot seem to return to their previous level of functioning. Shannon takes a solution based approach towards issues to help put things in perspective and not be held prisoner to one's traumatic experiences.
